On March 2,1862 the Rev. Charles G Bisbee, Samuel and Samantha Hitchock, Julia Farewell, Elizabeth Mooney, Emily Plough, Benjamin Hardwick and Lydia Martin organized the First Congregational Church of Alpena.  From the very beginning, our congregation has placed a strong emphasis on Christian Education because we believe there is, as pastor John Robinson of the Pilgrims stated, " More light and truth yet to break forth from God's Holy Word." We find in that " light and truth" the unity that comes, not through uniformity, but diversity of our lives transformed in the love and justice of God expressed in Jesus Christ. Because we are strengthened by faith passed on to us by our forebears, we not only remember the past but we seek to be faithful in our common journey.

Today we look not only to be aware of the needs of our local community but also those of all humankind and we seek to be of service through strong and active support of a wide variety of missions. Aware of who we are we accept the "cost and joy of discipleship."

Simply, we see the ecumenical vision "that all might be one", and to be faithful to our time and place passing on God's love to each newgeneration.

We look forward to seeing you in church and welcome you to join us as we seek to serve God.
